Owning a Bull Mastiff

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Owning a Bull Mastiff is a blessing and a bit of a curse. Mastiff’s are known as the “Gentle Giant.” They are wonderful dogs who are loyal and protective of those they love. They crave human attention. They are known to drool and snore. They are often viewed as being intimidating or scary because of their size. They must be trained at an early age.

I have a 2 year old Bull Mastiff , whose name is Tonka. What else do you name a female Mastiff. She does have many names that she goes by, Mama, Big Mamas, or I-lean. She is currently weighing in at a 137lbs. It is almost exactly 2 years ago that I brought her home from the breeder. She weighed 12lbs at 7 weeks. She has become such a integral part of our family. She is fantastic around my boys, very gentle. She does not know her size tough. She thinks she is a lap dog at times. That can be very interesting. She holds true to most of the behavior that Mastiffs are known for. She loves her people. She can be protective. She seems to not like men with sunglasses and hats on. She definitely craves human attention. She is never very far from one of us. She even lays at my feet under my desk. She is always looking for an invitation to join me on my bed. She takes up most of it when I let her. She snores when she sleeps and drools when she eats. I was lucky enough to have a good trainer for her when she was a puppy. He set her on the path to be such a good and well behaved dog. Thanks B!

She does get a bad rap at times because of her size. When I walk her people either move out of our way

because of her size or they are comment on her size. She has been called a horse, a tiger, a pony, and a lion to name a few of the comments that I hear. Her bark is loud and deep when she hears things that she is unsure about.

She has been so much fun these past 2 years. She is funny and smart. She is crazy at times. She loves water, whether it is the hose, sprinklers or jumping off our dock at the river. She is always there for a hug or a paw or a huge lick. I would not trade any of the time with her for any other dog. She is definitley a blessing in my families life. Our life is that much fuller because she is a part of it.

Being an Entrepreneurial Diva myself, I want to help out others who are either just getting started or have been doing business for a while.  My 1st Entrepreneurial Diva who I would like to feature

Pink Giraffe Blanket

Pink Giraffe Blanket

is Valerie Kaenel.  I met Valerie about 10 years ago.  She is the sister of my neighbor at the time.  We met and clicked right away.  She is a dentist by trade and a fellow soccer star.  We battled many teams together and she makes my smile pretty.  She is a mom to 2 beautiful little girls.  She and her husband, Preston, own a Dental Practice, Padre Dental in San Diego.  Where she finds the time, I have no idea.

She has started a new business for herself.  It is called Baby Shea.  You can find it at www.babyshea.etsy.com.  She makes the most adorable baby blankets, clothes, and hair clips, i have ever seen.  My sister just had twins, a boy and a girl, so I bought 2 of the baby blankets and a set of hair clips.  I even bought a hair clip for myself to wear to my son’s football games.  His colors were purple and white, so I bought a purple butterfly hair clip.  Take a look at some of her items.

You can currently find her on ESTY, which is the ebay equivalent for homemade items.  It is a fantastic resource.  On Sunday November 23, she will have a booth at the Encinitas Street Faire.  I will be there as well to help support her in her endeavour.  Stop on by if you are in the area.

If you would like to contact Baby Shea, leave a comment, I will take care of the rest.

The Unexpected Bonus of UFirst

Kris, Faith, Melissa, & I

Kris, Faith, Melissa, & I

One of the unexpected benefits of being a part of United First Financial are the relationships that I have formed.  In the past 2 years I have had the opportunity to meet hundreds and hundreds of people that work for UFirst.  We are all hoping to achieve the same goal, to help as many people as possible get out of debt.

At the last event I attended in Orlando, Fl, I was able to meet Melissa Horen, Kris Seymour, and Faith DeWerd.  I had spoken to Faith on numerous occasions due the the U1st Leading Ladies Webinars.  Melissa and Kris I had just met on Thursday evening.  By Saturday night, I felt like we had known each other for years.  I am getting to meet other people, women and men, who are motivated, successful, and driven.

We never know where life is going to take us, but due to UFirst, I now have more contacts and relationships with people all over the US and Canada to aid me on my journey.  This is one more thing to be grateful for.
